The cryptographic flight of $ 150 million in Ripple Chris Larsen in January 2024 was linked to a violation of Lastpass security from 2022, according to The security expert on the ZACHXBT channel, citing a recent confiscation of the American police.
The attack led to the flight of 213 million XRP tokens, worth $ 112 million at the time, after the attackers compromised the private keys stored in the LastPass password management system.
Zachxbt, who was the first to report the attack, noted that the stolen funds were quickly moved to various Crypto exchanges, including Binance, Kraken, OKX and others.
Larsen confirmed the violation, clarifying that it was an isolated incident involving his personal accounts and not the corporate portfolios of Ripple. He had not disclosed the cause of the security violation.
Following hacking, the police were quickly involved, and several exchanges froze the parties of the stolen funds, alone interrupting $ 4.2 million in XRP. Despite these efforts, a large quantity of stolen XRP had already been bleached or converted by XRP by the attackers.
Lastpass Breach persists: millions of crypto were stolen last December
Last December, cybersecurity experts sounded the alarm after a recent wave of cryptographic flights, directly linked to the safety violation of Lastpass 2022.
Zachxbt reported This just before Christmas, the “actor of the Lastpass threat” stole approximately $ 5.4 million in cryptographic active ingredients of more than 40 victim addresses, converting assets to Ethereum and Bitcoin. This event brings total losses to $ 250 million.
According to Zachxbt, the attackers used the stolen data during the 2022 incident, in which the hackers had access to the LastPass systems and exfiltrated the encrypted user data.
Despite encryption, persistent efforts to decipher information continue to give results for the authors.
Ripple holdings and inactive addresses linked to Larsen
After the announcement by President Donald Trump of the American strategic reserve of cryptography last week, discussions on the main active assets of American cryptography, including the RIPPLE XRP, intensified.
In a previous statement, Zachxbt revealed that the XRP addresses linked to Chris Larsen still hold more than 2.7 billion XRP worth more than $ 7 billion. He noted that these addresses transferred more than $ 109 million from XRP to trade in January 2025.
“Several of these addresses have been dormant for 6 to 7 years, it is therefore possible that it has lost access or sent funds to other people in February 2013,” noted Zachxbt. “He was also hacked for $ 112 million at the start of last year.”
